Anna’s Hummingbird, Calypte anna, is a year-round resident of Huntington Beach, California, known for its vibrant plumage and acrobatic flight. Males display iridescent pink-red throats, or gorgets, which they flash during courtship displays and territorial disputes. Females have greenish-gray plumage with a pale throat. These energetic birds can be found in gardens, parks, and coastal scrub habitats, where they feed on nectar from flowers and small insects. Their presence is particularly noticeable during the breeding season from winter to spring.
