The Eastern Fox Squirrel, Sciurus niger, is a common sight in urban and suburban areas of Huntington Beach, California. These medium-sized squirrels have reddish-brown fur with a bushy tail and creamy underparts. Eastern Fox Squirrels are active year-round, foraging for food in trees and on the ground. They feed on a variety of nuts, seeds, fruits, and insects. While they are primarily solitary animals, they may gather in small groups during the breeding season in late winter and early spring.
